DescriptionRound, Chinese export porcelain plate with overglaze blue and red enamel and gilding. The center of the plate has a hand-painted decoration of a circle with the gilded and red enamel initials "MA" in the center. This is surrounded by a gilt oval, with blue enamel painted in the space between the circle and the oval. The blue enamel probably had additional gilt stars painted over, however, these have worn away, leaving no enamel in their places. The gilded oval has a scalloped blue enamel and gilt edge. This center decoration is surrounded by an area of white, then the remnants of a gilded border of small arrows. The edge of the rim is decorated with a line of blue enamel and a double gilded scalloped line of vines and leaves, creating a continuous figure eight. Only a small amount of the gilded border at the rim has worn away.
