DescriptionTall, cylindrical, mug of buff-colored earthenware with a blue-tinted glaze, a type of ceramic known as pearlware. The mug is hand-painted with underglaze cobalt blue. There is a line of blue at both the foot and the rim, with a border of blue lines creating a geometric pattern at the rim. A large stylized spray of flowers, leaves, and vines is located opposite the handle; this is flanked on either side by a cluster of sprigs. The handle was pulled and applied to the body of the mug and painted with a series of inverted 'V's.
At one time, the mug sustained a series of cracks and breaks beginning where the handle meets the mug. They were repaired, but dark lines remain, with areas of discoloration near the breaks.
