DescriptionCylindrical Chinese export porcelain mug with hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration showing a Chinese landscape; the mug is a type of Chinese export porcelain known as Nankingware. The landscape shows a tree with a Chinese structure to the right. A river runs through the landscape, with a bridge in the foreground, a junk floating on the river, and structures, hills, and trees in the background. Above the landscape are two borders; the first is the "Nanking" border, which alternates between a thin line with a dot at either end and a thin line with an arrowhead at one end. Above the "Nanking" border is a band of blue with darker lines creating a diamond pattern inside. The mug has a handle made up of two strands of pulled porcelain that have been twisted together. Four molded decorations have been applied where the handle meets the body of the mug. There are imperfections in the glaze on the side of the mug near the central tree and structure. Imperfections in the porcelain appear as black dots on the surface of the mug.
