DescriptionAudio file of interview with Jessica and Rebekah. They were interviewed by Shian Earlington on December 4, 2025 in Stamford, Connecticut.
Jessica and Rebekah were interviewed as part of the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History's Community History Project discussing moments of change in their life.
Jessica, a Haitian American freshman majoring in health science, described her defining moment after the passing of her great-grandmother. The loss caused emotional separation within the family and taught Jessica the importance of independence, emotional strength, and focusing on growth instead of repeated negative cycles. She reflected on developing self-discipline in school, becoming more assertive, and looking at life from a more positive and grounded perspective. Her portion of the interview highlights resilience, emotional clarity, personal responsibility, and the importance of letting go to move forward.
Rebekah, a Haitian American freshman majoring in health science, described her redefining moment as moving homes and being separated from her dog during her junior year of high school. This experience encouraged deeper emotional reflection, self-care, and patience. She focused on thinking positively, avoiding comparison, and creating peace within herself. Her portion of the interview highlights emotional maturity, personal responsibility, healthy habits, and learning to stay grounded during transition and uncertainty.
