DescriptionA city is located on a low hill at the confluence of two rivers. Warehouses line the waterfront. One has a sign that reads: "C. Osgood & Co." Commercial buildings, houses, and churches are on the hill above. One church has a tall steeple, another is in the Gothic style with a square tower. A large factory with a smokestack is at the left. A house is on a wooded hill at the left, with additional buildings and a dock below. A cluster of buildings, one of them with a cupola, is in a clearing on the hill at the right. A jetty or breakwater is below. Steam locomotives draw trains of cars along both banks. Sailing vessels and steamboats are on the river. The large steamboat in the background has the name "CONNECTICUT" on her hull. The small steamboat in the foreground bears the name "CHARLES OSGOOD." A grassy field is in the right foreground. The tall masts of sailing vessels are visible behind the hill. Vignettes depict a factory complex on a river with a high waterfall at the left; a horse-drawn carriage passing a Classical Revival library building surrounded by trees; and a large town with several factory buildings in a river valley.
