DescriptionBirds-eye view of Hartford, looking west from the Connecticut River. The Park River begins in the bottom right corner and winds through the city, bordering Bushnell Park and terminating in the Connecticut River. There are two fountains in the park. The smaller Park River winds through town and enters the Connecticut River at the lower left, near Dutch Point and the factories of the Colt Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Co. Workers' housing, a baseball diamond, and Armsmear, the Colt mansion, are beyond. The Connecticut Valley Railroad crossed the Park River on a bridge nearby. Farther to the right are the Steamboat Dock and the covered bridge leading to East Hartford. Steamboats, sailing vessels, and a tugboat pulling two barges are on the river. Main Street runs from left to right and is lined with commercial buildings and churches. The Old State House and Post Office are at the junction of Main Street and State Street. North of Main Street, prominent landmarks include Bushnell Park and the Connecticut State Capitol. Trinity College (shown as projected but never completed) is in the left background, with the race track at Charter Oak Park in the distance beyond. Union Station is at the right, near the junction of Farmington Avenue and Asylum Avenue.
