DescriptionBlack and white gingham work dress with a button placket at center front to the waist and an offset (to the left) hidden button placket below the waistline. The neckline is high and has a narrow pointed collar. The three-quarter-length sleeves are slightly gathered at the top; they have turned-up cuffs. The bottom edge of the bodice is pleated into the waistband in the front and smooth in the back. The outermost pleat on the front of the bodice continues up to the shoulder seam, suggesting the "wings" over the armhole which were fashionable in this period. The bodice has a small pocket over the proper left breast. This pocket, the collar, and the bodice button placket are trimmed with a narrow edging of black and white striped fabric. There are three narrow tucks above the slightly flared hem. A single inverted box pleat is stitched at the center back of the skirt.
