DescriptionMan's shirt of white cotton. The shirt has a narrow band collar worked with handmade buttonholes at center front for attaching a separate, starched collar. The shirt has a linen bib down the center front which is stitched with two wide vertical tucks on each side of the placket, which is worked with buttonholes for attaching studs. While the button placket of the bib is open, the collar is not at the center front; the shirt opens down the center back for 15 3/4 inches and fastens with two mother of pearl buttons at the top only. The shirt is constructed with a narrow yoke across the back of the shoulders; the back of the shirt is slightly gathered into the bottom of the yoke. The shirt front is reinforced with a lining of self-fabric across the chest, curving from the bottom of the bib to the base of each armscye. There is a three-inch-long tab stitched into the base of the bib; this tab is worked with the owners initials in cross stitch above a vertical buttonhole. The sides of the shirt are vented for about eleven inches; the top of each vent is gusseted. The bottom corners of the shirt are rounded. The long sleeves are set into the armscyes with two pleats at the shoulder. They are gathered into the 1 1/2-inch-wide cuffs, which fasten with mother of pearl buttons.
