She is also wearing light colored tights and a tall pointed hat that has fringe on the end. She is holding a wand or stick in one hand. Maribel Cheney (1905-1997), on the right, is wearing a tunic that has a wired hem, causing the dress to stick out away from her body. She is also wearing shorts that are gathered at the knee, tights, shoes, and a scull cap with a feather attached to it. There are flowering bushes in the background.

The two girls are first cousins, granddaughters of Frank W. Cheney and Mary Bushnell. Jane was the daughter of John Davenport Cheney and Mary Wilcox Russell. Maribel was the daughter of Charles Cheney, II and his second wife, Mary E. Bell.
