DescriptionThree-quarter length studio portrait of Endah Dow Smith Cheney (1841-1915) and one of her infant children. Ednah is sitting in a chair on the right. She is wearing a long skirt with a striped blouse that has leg o' mutton sleeves. She is propping up the baby on a cloth-covered table to her left. The baby is wearing a white dress.

The photograph is mounted on a piece of tan cardstock. There is a sketch of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in Hartford, Connecticut printed in green-blue ink on the verso.

Stuart began his photography business in Hartford around 1880, so it seems likely that the photograph was taken around 1880 and that the infant is Thomas Langdon Cheney (born 1879) or Russell Cheney (born 1881).

Ednah Dow Smith and Knight Dexter Cheney had eleven children.
