NotesConstituent note: While the name "S. Broadbent" is inscribed on the stretcher, Dr. Samuel Broadbent was not the artist, as he died in 1828 and the painting is dated 1850. There is a Samuel Broadbent, Jr., born about 1812, who might be the "S. Broadbent" of the inscription.
