DescriptionA man wearing a military uniform stands on a ladder that leans beneath the open window on the second floor of a house. He has a mustache and has a sword at his side and a beaked cap on his head. He holds two flowers, apparently roses, in his right hand. A young woman stands at the window with her left hand raised. An elderly woman beside her brandishes a crutch in her right hand. She wears a cap, a cape, and a dark dress. A wooden shutter stands open. Grape vines grow on a trellis beneath the window. The buildings of a town, including a church with a steeple on which there is a tall cross, are in the right background above treetops.
