DescriptionIn this painting rays of sunlight shine from a cloud on to Washington's tomb over which an angel flies blowing a trumpet. The tomb is wrapped in garland and engraved with the names of Washington's staff, and on it sits a dove with an olive branch symbolizing peace. Three women mourn by his tomb. One represents justice and another holds a paper entitled "Washington's Legacy".
On a pedestal is the inscription "Tribute / To the memory of / Gen George Washington / Born 22 Feby Ob 14th Dec 1799 / AE 63".
