DescriptionThree men examine a large piece of machinery, probably an airplane engine. The man at the right is the future Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor. He wears a shirt, necktie, sweater vest, and jacket with a handkerchief in the pocket. One of the other men wears eyeglasses. The other wears a wrist watch. Additional men stand in the background. Some wear circular identification badges. The word "AIRCRAFT" is legible on the right side of some badges.

InscribedOn verso, accession number inscribed in pencil, lower right.NotesSubject Note: Edward, Duke of Windsor, was born 23 June 1894. He succeeded to the throne of Great Britain as Edward VIII in January 1936. In December 1936, he abdicated in order to marry Wallis Simpson. Following a visit to Germany in 1937 where he toured German armament plants, he was believed to be a Nazi sympathizer. It seems unlikely that his visit to Pratt & Whitney took place after this visit to Germany. (Finlay 11/14/2002)On View
