DescriptionYoung girl's pantalets of plain, white cotton, with extensions on the legs of white cotton woven with a check pattern. The pantalets are gathered into a plain, straight bodice with twill tape shoulder straps. The pantalets are open down the length of the back, to the front of the crotch seam. The garment appears to have originally extended only to the length of the plain cotton legs, as there are old needle holes and a faint fold line indicating a tuck, which surrounded the bottom of the leg. The checked cotton extensions have been extended themselves with the insertion of a 1 1/2-inch-wide band of the same fabric, to accomodate the growing child. The bottoms of the legs are edged with a strip of scalloped whitework embroidery.
