DescriptionYoung girl's dress of white cotton, with a high, round neckline and long sleeves trimmed with a double row of eyelet ruffles. The dress falls straight from the shoulders to the skirt flounce. It has thirteen vertical box pleats extending about five inches from the neckline and shoulders in front, and twelve pleats in back. The armscyes are piped. The seven-inch flounce, which forms the skirt, is headed by three rows of narrow tucks. The hem also has three rows of narrow tucks. The hem is edged with scalloped bobbin lace. The center back opening extends 9 1/2 inches and fastens with three small thread-covered buttons.

NotesHistorical Notes: Mary Caroline Ogden Pierson Cheney (1874-1949) had her picture taken in this dress when she was a child. It was donated to the Connecticut Historical Society by her daughter, Hannay Latimer Cheney Williams (b. 1912).
