DescriptionBlack serge (twill-woven cotton warp, wool weft), ankle-high, "congress" boot, with narrow, rounded square toe, low stacked heel, and triangular gussets of elastic fabric inserted on each side. The upper is seamed up the center front, from toe to top edge. A narrow fox of shiny black leather is stitched to the back of the boot in the heel area. The serge is lined in white twill-woven cotton; the elastic gussets are lined with plain-woven white cotton; the sock lining is white twill-woven cotton. The soles are made for right and left feet. There is a loop of white edged in blue, twill-woven cotton tape stitched to the back of each boot to help pull them on the foot.

MarkingsHand-written in ink inside each boot on the elastic lining: "B [over] 3" and "2 ./-" [the last marks are indecipherable].
