DescriptionThree-quarter-length portrait of two young women seated side by side with their arms around each other. Both wear similar dresses trimmed with eyelet lace. The woman at the left wears a shawl and holds a small bouquet of flowers, including roses. She wears a rose in her hair. The other woman wears a wreath of flowers and leaves. Drapery with a scroll pattern is in the left background. Drapery with a floral pattern is in the right background.

InscribedOn recto, lithographed title beneath image: "WHICH WILL YOU MARRY? / The bright black eye, the melting blue, / I cannot choose between the two, / And both when balanced hardly seem / To stir the scales or rock the beam, / But that is dearest all the while, / Which wears for us the sweetest smile. / 287."
On verso, inscribed in pencil: lower right, "Consv CPC 1987" "Dwr 15" "Hurlock Green"; lower center, accession number.
