DescriptionTwo elderly men and two women in front of a small center-chimney house. One of the women is wearing an apron. The other is wearing a plaid blouse and skirt. The door of the house is painted in contrasting colors. There is a well in front of an outbuilding in the left background and a picket gate (?) in the stone retaining wall in the foreground. A rain barrel is at the right corner of the house. Flowering plants (possibly peonies?) are planted in front of the house.

The older woman is Henrietta Wheeler. The younger woman is Mabel Osborn, an orphaned great-niece. The house is located on Southford Road in Southbury. In the 1880 Census, Charles Wheeler's occupation is given as farmer; Theodore Wheeler's occupation is given as carpenter.
