DescriptionPair of man's white cotton canvas pants. Button fly closure with five bone buttons; the buttonholes are hand-worked. The front pockets are covered with L-shaped flaps. There is a watch pocket set into the right side of the waistband. The waistband is notched at the center back. There are six bone buttons stitched on the waistband for suspenders. The fit of the pants at the waist is adjustable by means of a self-fabric strap and a brass buckle at the center back, where the waistband is deepened by a 3 1/2-inch gusset. The legs are narrow and straight, which was not highly fashionable by this time (when pant legs were getting wider). The pocket bags are made of white twill-woven cotton; the waistband is lined with plain-woven white cotton. The sharp creases currently in the pant legs are not appropriate for the period.
