DescriptionDistant view of Stamford from across the Mill River. The smokestack of the iron foundry is on the far left. The spire of the Congregational Church is in the center and the spire of the Episcopal Church is at the far right. Between the two spires, the mast of a sloop is visible; the sloop is in the Ship about nal, which is not visible. A bridge crosses the river to the left. Two men are seated in the foreground; the man on the left, shown sketching, is probably a self-portrait.
