DescriptionSteep rocky outcropping, said to have been the fort of Pomperaug, an Indian Chief. Notations identify the trees as "Pine" "Oak & ash trees / very thick," "Button wood," and "Alders." A note at the left indicated the site where the "first mill [was] erected" on the "Banks of Pomperaug River." The position of the river is indicated in the foreground, between a "meadow" and an "open" space.
