DescriptionPossibly a view of Union Village, later North Manchester, where the first cotton mill operated successfully in Connecticut was erected in 1794. A road leads downhill, perhaps to the Hockanum River and then climbs another hill in the background. A "yellow" mill building on a "stone" foundation is central to the composition. Houses, outbuildings and other industrial buildings lie the road to the left and right. Fields in the foreground are separated by fences and "stone wall[s]."
