DescriptionSquare-toed, flat shoes of tan leather and honeycomb-weave wool. The leather "foxing" covers half the width of the vamp, beginning at the toes, and also covers the heel areas of the shoes in a narrow crescent shape. The wool is stitched in the shape of a gaiter over the leather; it is slit on top of the vamp and worked with three pairs of eyelets for ties. The wool curves away to either side at the top of the slit, as in the shape of a heart. The throatline and slit are bound with pale olive-colored silk/cotton tape. The quarters area is lined with white twill-woven cotton, the vamp is lined with plain-woven white cotton, and the sock lining is also plain-woven white cotton. The sole is straight.
