Obsolete CHS library accession number and current museum number are inscribed at bottom.NotesSubject Notes: John Parks Stone was born in Erving, Massachusetts, on 9 December 1871 and died in June 1942. He was a musician, playing the euphonium in Hatch's 1st Connecticut Infantry Band at Hartford. Before joining the Navy, he also played in the Hartford Philharmonic Orchestra, the Governor's Foot Guard Band, and Colt's Armory Band. When he joined the Navy, he was transferred to the band of the presidential yacht Mayflower, playing before Presidents Taft, Wilson, Harding, and Coolidge. He was one of the original members of the Navy Band, and retired from the Navy in 1928. He also played with the National Symphony Orchestra of 1930, and was a member of the Little Symphony Orchestra in Washington.
He was appointed a corporal in the band of the First Regiment of Infantry in Connecticut on 31 July 1906, and was honorably discharged from the military service of the State on 21 July 1907. There is no listing for a John P. Stone after 1907 in the Hartford City Directory.
The Hartford City Directory has an advertisement for Hatch's Military Band and The Beeman & Hatch Orchestra on page 515 of the 1899 edition.
