Subject Note: John Carter of Hartford enlisted 30 August 1862. He mustered into the 25th Co.K, on 11 November 1862; he was wounded 27 May 1863 at Port Hudson, Louisianna, and died 3 August 1863.
In the Hartford City Directories, there are two John Carters. One shows up in 1860-1861, and is a painter, boarding at Edwards Street. It is most likely the correct one, as the other man continues to be listed after 1864, after this man died.
