He enlisted in the army on June 21, 1861 and was mustered into the Fifth Regiment Infantry Company G on July 22, 186 as a First Sergeant. He was promoted to Sergeant-Major on September 30, 1861. He became Second Lieutenant on November 2, 1861. He became First Lieutenant on June 12, 1862. He was captured on October 16, 1863. He was mustered out on July 19, 1865. (Ruocco, 4/21/2012)
