NotesSubject Note: Bear Mountain is located in Salisbury, Connecticut, in the northwest corner of the state. Visible on top of the mountain is a monument erected by Robbins Battell of Norfolk marking the highest point in Connecticut, 2,355 feet above sea level.

Date Note: The monument was erected by Robbins Battell in 1885; the painting was given to Connecticut Historical Society in 1896. Therefore the painting must have been made between those dates.
