DescriptionCloseup view of a funerary monument. The base is inscribed in relief with the word "BRACE"; the surface of the monument is incised with the inscription: "THOMAS K. BRACE / BORN OCT. 14 1825 / DIED MARCH 6 1870 / MARY J. BUEL / HIS WIFE / BORN DEC. 11 1827 / DIED MARCH 2 1884"

Brace attended the Litchfield Law School and was a lawyer, judge, and representative from Hartford. He served as Mayor of Hartford from 1840 to 1843. Mary Jane Buel was his wife and the mother of Mary, Emily, and Julia Brace. After her husband died of consumption (tuberculosis) in 1870, Mrs. Brace raised her daughters as a single mother.
