DescriptionWoman's shift of plain-woven, somewhat heavyweight linen. The linen has many weaving flaws and is likely domestically produced. The shift body is cut in one piece and folded at the shoulderline. The flare of the panels is pieced with triangles of the linen on the proper right side, from the underarm to the hem. The neckline is a wide square, about five inches deep. The sleeves are short (7 1/4 inches) and narrow. Ease is provided by underarm gussets. Seams are selvage-to-selvage or flat felled. Hems are less than 1/4-inch deep.
