DescriptionBrick house with louvered shutters, an arched entrace and a lunette in the gable. An iron fence lines the paved sidewalk, trolley tracks are in the dirt street. One of the leafless tree at the right appears to be an elm. A street lamp is at right. An advertising sign at the far left reads; "Loeffler / [Deut]sche Apotheke / [Dr]ugs / Medicines... / Wines and Spirits / Cigars..."

This building stood the second / below Grove Street, on Main Street, on the eastside, the south / side adjoining the Universalist Church property [continues in black ink:] and where / formerly stood the 'Chenevard' house / The building on the left [noted above line] Fourth East corner Grove & Main Sts / is known as the 'Putnam building' and was built / in 1848 by Asa Farewell Esq & famous for its expense".
