1975.86.168.4 is a formal portrait of General Joseph Eggleston Johnston of the Confederacy. General Johnston surrendered to United States General William Tecumseh Sherman on April 26, 1865 in Greensborough, North Carolina. (Harper's Weekly, 27 May 1865.)
1975.86.168.10 is a formal portrait of General Felix Kirk Zollocoffer of the Confederacy. While assessing Union Troops at Mill Sprigs, Kentucky, General Zollicoffer mistakenly wandered into federal lines. Zollicoffer tried to hide his Confederate uniform with his raincoat and attempted to escape by portraying a Union Officer. He was unsuccessful and was killed by Union forces on January 19, 1862.
