DescriptionWoman's cap of off-white, loosely-woven cotton edged with lace. The cap is constructed of one piece of fabric, gathered at the back of the neck. The one-inch-wide lace trim is gathered and stitched around the entire edge. This lace appears to be a hand-made needle lace. The edge around the face was decorated with a silk ribbon, 3/4 inch wide, attached around the edge and then used for ties that extend approximately eight inches from each front corner. This ribbon is a complex-weave, with narrow satin stripes and black or brown edges. This ribbon was attached to the cap with three straight pins; one at each front corner and one at the center top of the cap. These were taken out and the ribbon removed, because it is probably not original. The ribbon will be stored with the cap.
