DescriptionInfant's dress of white cotton with a high, round neckline edged with a scalloped whitework ruffle stitched under a binding. The dress has a center front panel which tapers from the shoulders to the waist and then flares towards the bottom. This panel is ornamented with horizontal series of three tucks alternating with strips of whitework embroidery with a scallop and floral motif. The panel is edged with scalloped whitework embroidery. The lower skirt is decorated with three series of tucks, and the hem is edged with 2 3/4-inch-wide scalloped whitework embroidery with a stylized leaf and floral motif. The long sleeves are cut with an upper and lower seam like a coat sleeve. The wrist openings are bordered with the tucked and embroidered bands like the front panel. The back of the dress is cut with a separate yoke and skirt. The yoke consists of the decorative bands like that used on the front, but placed vertically rather than horizontally. The skirt is closely gathered into the bottom of the yoke. The center back opening extends 12 1/2 inches and fastens with three mother of pearl buttons.
