DescriptionTwo-story brick and frame commercial and residential building. A sign over the door reads: "Meats / V. Mastrangelo / Commission Merchant / Groceries."Signs stenciled on the shop windows read: "Salada / Tea / is delicious" "Sheriff / Office" "White Rose / Ceylon Tea." A woman, three girls and a small boy stand on the concrete slab porch. One small girl and the boy are barefoot. The two small girls appear to be twins. A bench, a bucket and a broom are also on the porch. Laundry hangs from a clothesline on a second-story porch. A standing sign near the maple tree at the left reads: "Halleck's / Pure / Ice Cream / Sold Here / The cream that / is different." The one-room shingled building on the right has a sign that reads: "Shoe / Repair."
NotesSubject Note: Vincenzo Mastrangelo is listed as a storekeeper in Mansfield, Connecticut in the 1930 Federal Census and as the owner of a grocery store in Mansfield in the 1940 Federal Census. There is no V. Mastrangelo listed in Willimantic, so it seems likely this is the person whose store appears in the photograph. Vincenzo Mastrangelo was born in Italy about 1887 and emigrated to the United States in 1906.
