DescriptionAn arched stone bridge spans railroad tracks, a pedestrian promenade, and a broad river. Electric trolley cars, a horse-drawn carriage, and pedestrians are on the bridge. Three railroad trains are on the tracks at the left and another train is crossing a railroad bridge in the background. Smoke issues from factory smokestacks along the river. Trees along the river show autumn foliage. Sailboats, a tugboat towing a barge, and what appears to be a steam yacht are on the river in the foreground.
NotesTitle Note: The new bridge across the Connecticut River at Hartford, which was completed in 1908 and replaced the old covered bridge across the river. It was simply known as the Hartford Bridge until 1922, when it was renamed to honor Morgan G. Bulkeley.

Subject Note: The pedestrian promenade and park along the river were not built in the early twentieth century when the bridge was completed, but in the late twentieth century, when access to the river was restored through Riverfront Recapture, walkways and parks were created on both sides of the river.
