DescriptionSteam ferry F.C. Fowler docked on the Hartford side of the Connecticut river. Two men and a wagon drawn by two horses are on the boat. On shore are a cart drawn by two horses, two additional men, and a woman with a basket. A small boat house has signs that read: "Boat Building" and "Boats To Let." Three people sit on the dock outside and several small rowboats are nearby. To the left is a large warehouse with a barge docked beside it. A small sailboat sails at the right. The piers of the old covered bridge are visible in the background with the spans of an iron railroad bridge beyond.
NotesSubject Note: The F.C. Fowler, built in 1893, was used as a ferry boat between Hartford and East Hartford after the covered bridge across the Connecticut River between those two towns burned in 1895. Normally the F.C. Fowler crossed the river at East Haddam.
