DescriptionStone, brick, and frame commercial buildings line a city street. The central building has an iron balcony and fluted pilasters on the second story. Signs read: "L.G. Reilly / 173 Livery Board / Feed & Sale Stable" "Auction Thursday" "Laundry" "Hair Cutting / 10cts / Shaving 5 cts" "Rooms" "Keho & Geary" "G.W. Camp" "D.G. Yuengling Ropkins & Co.'s / Extra Fine Lager Ales & Porter" "155- The E.S. Kibbe [Co.] " Broadsides and theatrical posters are posted in the alleys. Merchandise displayed in shop windows includes beer bottles. A man, blurred from movement, in rear. Utility poles are at the left. A gas or oil street light is in the foreground. Horse manure is in the street.
NotesSubject Notes: According to the Hartford City Directory, Lester G. Abbe sold meat and fish at 183 State Street. S. D. Chamberlin sold provisions and seed at 179 State Street. Elbert S. Kibbe wholesale grocer is listed at 137 State Street.
Keho & Geary saloon was at 167 State Street, owned by Charles J. Keho and James T. Geary.
George W. Camp had a saloon at 161 State Street which was only listed in the Hartford City Directory in 1898.
