Franz Xaver Winterhalter

German, 1805 - 1873

BiographyFranz Xaver Winterhalter was born in the village of Menzenschwand, in the Black Forest of Germany. He studied art in Munich and at an early age became court painter to Louis Philippe of France. His subjects also included Queen Victoria of Great Britain and her family.
