BiographySamuel Hamlin was born in Middletown, Connecticut, in 1746. He apprenticed as a pewterer with Thomas Danforth II (1731-1782) and Jacob Whitmore. Hamlin moved to Providence, Rhode Island, possibly at the suggestion of Danforth. Samuel Hamlin had at least one son, Samuel Ely Hamlin (1774-1864), who was also a pewterer.
