Amy Nichols was born on 12 August 1742 in Waterbury, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Capt. George Nichols and Susannah Hickox. She married Rev. James Scovill (1732-1808) in 1762. They had at least four children: James Scovill (1764-1825), Samuel Scovill (1773-1856), Edward George Scovill (1781-1840), and Hannah Scovill Micheau (d. 1846). Amy died on 25 June 1832 in Kingston, New Brunswick, Canada.
