DescriptionWide-mouthed, barrel-shaped, yellow stoneware jar with a slightly flared rim and two applied lug handles. The handles are pressed against the jar along their full length, attaching completely to the shoulder and neck of the jar. There is a group of four raised lines circling the jar just below the rim. On one side, between the handles and below the raised lines, is an impressed maker's mark that reads, "ARMSTRONG,/ &/ WENTWORTH/ NORWICH." An incised flower, consisting of seven petals on a stem with one leaf, decorates the opposite side of the jar. Cobalt blue decoration has been applied to the jar on the stem of the flower, base of the handles, and over the maker's mark. There is some flaking to the glaze on the exterior, especially at and below the widest points of the jar. The inside of the jar is covered in a darker brown slip glaze, or Albany-type slip glaze.
There is one crack in the rim, and at the base of one of the handles. There are four pits in the exterior surface of the jar, one large chip at the rim, and several at the base.
