DescriptionPrinted muslin book of 'The Night Before Christmas, or A Visit of St. Nicholas'. The cover shows a traditional Santa Claus figure, with black fur trim on a red suit, with a large bag spilling toys. The book consists of eight leaves, printed in one long strip and accordian-folded so that the outer edge of each "page" is folded. The left edge is a stitched binding, and the top and bottom edges are raw. Each page is printed with lines from the famous Clement Moore poem, with corresponding pictures, predominately printed in red, green, yellow, orange, and black.

MarkingsPrinted on bottom of the cover in black letters: "AKRON, OHIO/ THE SAALFIELD PUB COMPANY". On the reverse: "SAALFIELD'S MUSLIN BOOKS/ THEY MAY BE WASHED/ AND THE COLORS WILL NOT RUN./ A CHILD CAN CHEW THEM/ AND HAVE LOTS OF FUN."
