DescriptionGirl's hat constructed from a long strip of woven straw, worked so that one edge is scalloped; the woven straw is coiled in a gradually increasing spiral to form the separate crown top and brim. The overall shape of the hat is a low, flat crown with a slightly flared, two-inch-wide brim. The sides of the crown are made of pink (now faded to ecru) ribbed silk/cotton fabric, cut on the bias and overlaid with separate straw elements woven in a three-part leaf-like design. This same bias ribbed fabric binds the edge of the brim. The back of the hat is decorated with a pale pink silk bow. The hat is interlined with loosely woven, stiff, plain-woven fabric (possibly linen). Over this interlining, the brim is lined with pale pink silk. It is not clear if the crown was ever lined.
