DescriptionNinth plate ambrotype of Mary Frances Bull taken at the photographic firm of Holmes, Booth and Hayden in Waterbury, Connecticut. This image was probably taken when Bull was in her late 30s or early 40s (she died in 1872 at the age of 44).
She is wearing a dark-colored dress, the details of which are not visible. There is a large brooch at her throat. Her hair is parted in the middle and pulled back.
The thermoplastic case features a dog carrying a basket by the handle that it holds in its mouth. Under the dog is the phrase "GOING TO MARKET."
