DescriptionWoman's two-piece day dress of beige-colored linen, with trimming of white machine-embroidery on brown linen. The neckline is high and round and is simply bound. The front of the bodice is decorated with vertical tucks, flanked by ruffles of the embroidered brown linen; the ruffle of the proper right side is shorter than the left side, which extends to the waist. The bodice opening is along the proper left side, hidden under the ruffle. It fastens with hooks and eyes. The fullness of the narrow pleats at the upper bodice front is released at about the bustline and then stitched down again at the waistline. The sleeves are gathered into the shoulder; they are cut with a fullness that is controlled by pleats along the back of the wrist, creating a leg-o'-mutton effect. The wrist openings are edged with the embroidered brown linen ruffle. The back is cut in four pieces. Additional fitting is provided by box pleats extending from the shoulder to the waist, where the fullness is then released. The bodice is unlined. A self-fabric petersham is stitched at the waistline. The skirt is cut with gores so that it sweeps back. The front is smooth and the back is gathered.
