NotesSubject Note: Like St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church was founded by Syrian refugees from northern Syria in the early 1900s as their homeland was taken over by the Ottoman Turks and became part of Turkey. The community’s development of St. George Church began in 1920 and as the community grew, its spiritual home culminated in 1987 with a new church consecrated on Kohanza Street in Danbury. St. George Church sponsors a youth group, Sunday school, an annual festival featuring food and music, and a ladies society.
