DescriptionGrey, ovoid, stoneware jug with a salt glazed exterior and a brown slip glaze, or Albany-type glaze, on the interior. The jug has a flat bottom and gently swelled sides that narrow at the shoulder to form a narrow neck and wide band, or collar, at the rim. A pulled strap handle has been applied to one side, connecting the rim and shoulder. Opposite the handle is the impressed maker's mark, "2/ T O GOODWIN/ HARTFORD". Cobalt blue has been applied to the ends of the handle and the mark. The neck is tilted slightly to one side, and there are imperfections in the glaze. There is a large chip in the rim.

MarkingsOpposite the handle is an impressed maker's mark, "2/ T O GOODWIN/ HARTFORD". There are three labels adhered to the outside of the jug. The largest is located to the right of the mark and is a square, white, paper label with a brown printed border. The label reads, "George S. McKearin/ Collection/ of/ American Pottery/ No. 1232". The number is hand-written. Above this is a small, white, oval label with now yellowed tape on top. "7911 N" is hand-written in blue ink on the label. Finally, half of a rectangular label with a red border is adhered to the bottom of the jug. "$18.00" is hand-written in thick black ink on the label.
