DescriptionTwo bronze medals awarded to the Hartford Woven Wire Mattress Co. by the American Institute New-York. The front sides of the medals have a relief image of a seated female figure holding a staff with a liberty cap in her left hand. She is holding a laurel wreath in her right hand. Beside her is a shield with an eagle perched on top. Around her are symbols of agriculture and industry. The reverse side has the name of the company, invention, and date of the award engraved.
The larger medal (.2) was awarded in 1869 to the Hartford Woven Wire Mattress Co. for the woven wire spring mattress.
The smaller medal (.3) was awarded in 1883 to the Hartford Woven Wire Mattress Co. for iron and brass bedsteads.
