DescriptionThe album includes formal and informal photographs of people and places associated with the Brainard family. Most subjects are unidentified, but have the date of the event inscribed beneath the photograph. Surnames that are identified are Wells, Huntington, Barrows, and Northorp. Towns and cities include East Haddam, Farmington, Hartford, New Haven, New London, and West Hartford, Connecticut. Streets include Farmington Avenue and Quaker Lane as well as Main Street in downtown Hartford.
Several photographs show Keney Park, Elizabeth Park, and Pope Park in Hartford. Other views include sunbathers at Ocean Beach , Fisher's and Long Island Sounds, and New London harbor. There are several views of meadows and farms in and around the Hartford area and some photographs are of the City of New Haven and include photographs of Yale University.
Several views are of pet dogs, horse and carriages, and cows grazing in meadows. Some photographs show fires and floods.
Views of downtown Hartford include the Blizzard of 1889, the Connecticut River flood of 1901, and several photographs of parades including a parade honoring military members departing for the Spanish-American War in 1898, the Inaguration Parade of 1901, and Decoration Day Parade of 1902. Many of the views are taken from the rooftop of the Aetna Building.

InscribedMost sitters in the photograph album are unidentified; however, the photographs are dated and many have the location of the event inscribed beneath the photograph in black ink. Accession number appears on inside front cover, upper center.Notes1965.33.25.17 is a photograph taken on 24 June 1902 of six men from the Yale University class of 1857. The men are identified as Misters Wells, Strong, Huntington, Northorp, and Barrows. The name of the sixth gentleman is illegible.
1965.33.25.38 is a photograph of the Prospect Avenue trolley.
1965.33.25.64 is a photograph of the State Capitol taken from the rooftop of the Aetna Building in October 1901.
1965.33.25.107 and 1965.33.25.108 are photographs of a parade honoring military personal departing for the Spanish-American War in 1898.
